Embark on a rare long-distance water adventure along the Mahaweli River, Sri Lanka’s longest and most historic river, as you journey from the highlands of Kandy all the way to the eastern coast of Trincomalee.
This 4-day expedition covers nearly 100 km of calm reservoir stretches, winding river bends, forested banks, and quiet rural villages. As you paddle through a mix of open-water reservoirs and gently flowing segments, the scenery constantly shifts: misty highland foothills give way to dry-zone forests, bird-rich wetlands, and wide basins where fishermen cast their nets at sunset.
Nights are spent camping near the riverbanks, with crackling fires, still water, and star- filled skies creating the perfect atmosphere. It’s a tranquil yet adventurous route that offers an intimate look at the landscapes and lifestyles shaped by the Mahaweli.
